Tour itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Tirana - Durres

Day 2: Durrës – Berat – Vlora

The day begins with a tour of Durrës, one of Albania's oldest cities and an important port city on the Adriatic. Between ancient walls and modern buildings, the city's long history unfolds – from its Roman past with the amphitheater to the vibrant streets of the present.

Then continue to Berat, the "City of a Thousand Windows." Nestled between mountains and the Osum River, Berat presents itself as one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans. The old town, with its typical white houses that climb the hillside in terraces, and the imposing fortress, which is still inhabited today, are what make this UNESCO World Heritage Site so special. Narrow streets, Orthodox churches, and minarets bear witness to the harmonious blend of different cultures and religions.

In the late afternoon, we travel to Vlora, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet. We check into our hotel and have time for a relaxing evening on the coast.

Day 3: Vlora – Llogara National Park – Saranda

From Vlora, the route leads along one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the Balkans – along the Albanian Riviera, where the deep blue sea stretches beneath steep mountain slopes and the coastline sparkles in countless bays. In Llogara National Park, one of the country's most impressive natural areas, dense pine forests alternate with spectacular views of the Ionian Sea.

The journey continues to the coastal town of Himara, a charming gem of southern Albania with Mediterranean flair and picturesque beaches. A photo stop on the Porto Palermo peninsula offers the opportunity to capture the striking, triangular fort of Ali Pasha Tepelena – an impressive relic from Ottoman times, majestically overlooking the bay.

Then, travel to Saranda, the popular resort on the Ionian coast, which impresses with its mild climate, lively promenade, and magnificent views of Corfu. Check into the hotel and enjoy some free time.

Day 4: Saranda – Butrint – Ksamil – Gjirokaster

The day begins with a visit to Butrint, one of the country's most important archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in a picturesque lagoon landscape, it reveals over 2,500 years of history. The remains of ancient temples, Roman baths, an amphitheater, and Byzantine basilicas testify to the former grandeur of this city, which was shaped over the centuries by Greeks, Romans, and Venetians.

On the way north, a short stop in the idyllic coastal town of Ksamil is recommended – known for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and views of the offshore islands.

Then continue to Gjirokaster. The old town, with its slate-roofed houses and steep streets, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and preserves the typical image of Ottoman architecture. Check into the hotel.

Day 5: Gjirokaster – Korça

In the morning, a visit to Gjirokastër is on the agenda – a city that impresses with its unique architecture and atmosphere. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is considered one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans and is nicknamed the "City of Stone." High above the slate roofs stands the imposing fortress, offering a sweeping view over the Drino Valley.

After the tour, the route continues through the impressive mountain scenery of southern Albania. The drive offers breathtaking views of valleys, rivers, and remote villages that blend harmoniously into the landscape. In the afternoon, arrival in Korça, a charming city in the southeast of the country, known for its cultural diversity, ancient bazaars, and traditional architecture. Check-in at the hotel.

Day 6: Korça – Ohrid

The day begins with a visit to Korça, a city considered the cultural center of southeastern Albania. Among elegant Renaissance villas, ancient churches, and bustling bazaar streets, one can feel the unique spirit of this historic trading city.

The route then continues northwards, through the picturesque border region between Albania and North Macedonia, to the legendary Lake Ohrid – the oldest and deepest lake in Europe. The region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and impresses with its harmonious blend of nature, history, and culture.

Before reaching the city of Ohrid, a visit to the Sveti Naum Monastery is on the agenda. Situated amidst an idyllic natural landscape, it is one of the most important monastic complexes in North Macedonia. Clear springs that feed Lake Ohrid originate directly below the monastery. A tranquil rowboat trip through the spring area offers impressive views of the interplay of water, light, and nature.

Then transfer to the hotel in Ohrid.

Day 7: Ohrid – Elbasan – Tirana

The morning is dedicated to exploring Ohrid, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A stroll through the old town reveals magnificent churches, Byzantine frescoes, and narrow, cobblestone streets overlooking the deep blue lake. The city is considered the cultural heart of North Macedonia and was once one of the most important religious centers of Orthodox Christianity.

In the afternoon, return to Albania. The route follows the historic Roman road Via Egnatia, which once connected the Adriatic and Aegean regions. A short stop is made in Elbasan, one of the oldest cities in the country, to visit the remains of the city walls and the historic center.

Then continue to the capital city of Tirana and check into the hotel.

Day 8: Tirana – Kruja – Tirana

The day begins with an excursion to Kruja, the city of the Albanian national hero Skanderbeg. Picturesquely situated on the slopes of Skanderbeg Mountain, it is considered a symbol of the Albanian resistance against the Ottomans. The imposing fortress, once Skanderbeg's headquarters, now houses a museum that vividly recounts the story of his fight for freedom. A stroll through the historic bazaar, with its traditional craft shops and fragrant spice stalls, reveals the city's authentic charm.

Afterwards, return to Tirana. Albania's capital city presents itself as a vibrant metropolis where history and modernity meet. A comprehensive city tour will explore the most important sights: the expansive Skanderbeg Square with its impressive buildings from the Italian royal era, the Clock Tower, the Et'hem Bey Mosque, and the former official residence of dictator Enver Hoxha.

Return to the hotel in Tirana in the evening.
