Tour itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Tirana

Flight to Albania and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2 : Tirana – olive oil tasting – Berat

Albania's capital city presents itself as a vibrant metropolis where history and modernity meet. A comprehensive city tour will explore the most important sights: the expansive Skanderbeg Square with its impressive buildings from the Italian royal era, the Clock Tower, the Et'hem Bey Mosque, and the former official residence of dictator Enver Hoxha.

Then continue to Berat, the "City of a Thousand Windows." Nestled between mountains and the Osum River, Berat presents itself as one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans. The old town, with its typical white houses that climb the hillside in terraces, and the imposing fortress, which is still inhabited today, are what make this UNESCO World Heritage Site so special. Narrow streets, Orthodox churches, and minarets bear witness to the harmonious blend of different cultures and religions.

Overnight stay in Berat.

Day 3 : Berat – Vlora – Gjirokastra

After breakfast, we will drive to Vlora, the city of independence. It is a port city of special importance to Albania.

Continue your journey to Gjirokastra, a city that impresses with its unique architecture and atmosphere. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is considered one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the Balkans and is nicknamed the "City of Stone." High above the slate roofs stands the imposing fortress, offering a sweeping view over the Drina Valley.

From there, a short walk leads through the narrow, cobbled streets of the old town, past the characteristic stone houses with their slate roofs and wooden shutters. The route also passes the birthplace of Enver Hoxha, which is now a museum and offers insight into a formative period of recent Albanian history.

Day 4 : Gjirokastra – Butrint – Gjirokastra

The day begins with a visit to Butrint, one of the country's most important archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in a picturesque lagoon landscape, it reveals over 2,500 years of history. The remains of ancient temples, Roman baths, an amphitheater, and Byzantine basilicas testify to the former grandeur of this city, which was shaped over the centuries by Greeks, Romans, and Venetians.

On the way back to Gjirokastra, a short stop in the idyllic coastal town of Ksamil is recommended – known for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters and views of the offshore islands.

Day 5: Gjirokastra – Korça

The route continues through the impressive mountain scenery of southern Albania. The drive offers breathtaking views of valleys, rivers, and remote villages that blend harmoniously into the landscape. In the afternoon, arrival in Korça, a charming city in the southeast of the country, known for its cultural diversity, ancient bazaars, and traditional architecture.

Check-in at the hotel.

Day 6: Korça – Sveti Naum – Ohrid

The day begins with a visit to Korça, a city considered the cultural center of southeastern Albania. Among elegant Renaissance villas, ancient churches, and bustling bazaar streets, one can feel the unique spirit of this historic trading city.

The route then continues northwards, through the picturesque border region between Albania and North Macedonia, to the legendary Lake Ohrid – the oldest and deepest lake in Europe. The region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and impresses with its harmonious blend of nature, history, and culture.

Before reaching the city of Ohrid, a visit to the Sveti Naum Monastery is on the agenda. Situated amidst an idyllic natural landscape, it is one of the most important monastic complexes in North Macedonia. Clear springs that feed Lake Ohrid originate directly below the monastery. A tranquil rowboat trip through the spring area offers impressive views of the interplay of water, light, and nature.

Then transfer to the hotel in Ohrid.

Day 7 : Ohrid – Durres

The morning is dedicated to exploring Ohrid, one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We begin by exploring the city from the water with a short boat trip, stopping at the popular photo spot, the Church of Kaneo. A stroll through the old town reveals magnificent churches, Byzantine frescoes, and narrow, cobblestone streets overlooking the deep blue lake. The city is considered the cultural heart of North Macedonia and was once one of the most important religious centers of Orthodox Christianity.

Return to Albania at midday. The route follows the historic Roman road Via Egnatia, which once connected the Adriatic and Aegean regions.

Continue to Durres and overnight stay.

Day 8 : Durres – Shkodra – wine tasting – Durres

After breakfast, the journey continues north to Shkodra, one of Albania's oldest cities and a vibrant cultural center of the region. Picturesquely situated between the Buna and Drin rivers and on the shores of the expansive Lake Skadar, the city boasts a rich and eventful history. Majestically overlooking the cityscape is the Rozafa Fortress. From this historic vantage point, a breathtaking panorama unfolds across the northern Albanian plains and the shimmering waters of the lake. The mysterious legend of the woman walled up within its walls still lends the complex a unique and mystical atmosphere.

The return journey offers ample opportunity to explore the country's culinary delights. One stop is the family-run Herta winery, owned by the Osmani family. Here, the impressive development of Albanian viticulture can be traced: from an initial six hectares of vineyards, the estate has grown to ten hectares, where various local and international grape varieties are carefully cultivated. A tasting of the excellent wines, accompanied by regional snacks, completes the visit.

The journey then continues back to the hotel in Durrës.
